Discourse Management Workshop - Nov 5, 2011

Leader: Seth Guiñals-Kupperman - High School for Math, Science and Engineering at City College of New York

Summary: If the Modeling Cycle is the structure for how the curriculum flows, Discourse Management is how the day-to-day lessons are structured. A modeling instructor uses multiple methods to effect a classroom discussion that is based around students’ ideas and couched in their experiences in the classroom. Join us as we illustrate some powerful methods for sharpening student discourse and highlight the unique significance of having your students discussing the physics (not just watching someone else do it).

There will also be time at the beginning of the meeting for 2 or 3 individuals to make short presentations (5 minutes max.) about specific physics teaching ideas.
